Location

Off the north-west coast of Lombok, drifting in the Indian Ocean are the three Gilis (small islands) - Air, Meno and Trawangan.
The islands have long white sandy beaches, water which moves through exotic hues of blue - from azure to turquoise, and the famous blue coral and turtles which are so popular with divers and snorkellers who come from all over the world.

Gili Trawangan's development began around 20 years as a result of informed travelers seeking an 'undiscovered' tropical island paradise. It is the furthest of the three from Lombok but only takes around 10 minutes by speedboat.
This idyllic island is two by three kilometres and the cobbled main street is lined with guesthouses, cafes, restaurants, bars, dive schools and small artifact shops.

Local transport is by ponies and carts (cidomos) and pushbikes, meaning that the sound of cars and motorbikes so evident in other parts of Indonesia is left far behind, offering a peaceful, almost rural atmosphere, enlivened only by the eclectic selection of music coming from the bars and restaurants.
